The AUD to USD rate is the inverse of USD to AUD. If one US dollar buys about 1.5 Australian dollars, one Australian dollar buys about 1 ÷ 1.5 ≈ 0.67 US dollars. Currency traders quote the pair as AUD/USD, so this is the number you will see on most market screens and in the live AUD/USD chart.
A rising AUD/USD means the Australian dollar is strengthening – good news for Australians buying from US stores or travelling to the United States, and less good for anyone converting US dollars into Australian dollars. The tables below show the rate as USD to AUD; each row also shows the AUD to USD equivalent.

Rate on the first day of each month over the past year, plus the latest rate (AUD per 1 USD).
Multiply the Australian dollar amount by the AUD to USD rate (equivalently, divide it by the USD to AUD rate). For example, if 1 AUD = 0.65 USD, then 500 AUD = 325 USD.
AUD/USD is the standard market quote for the Australian dollar: the number of US dollars one Australian dollar buys. It is the same as the AUD to USD rate on this page.
Most recently between late 2010 and 2013, and for long stretches before the dollar was floated in 1983. See our AUD/USD parity history.
Banks, card issuers and airport exchange counters usually add a margin to the mid-market rate and may also charge a fixed fee. The amount you actually receive in Australian dollars is therefore normally a little lower than the figure shown here. Our exchange fees calculator shows how much a given margin costs.
