What one US dollar is worth in Australian dollars today, and how today's rate compares with the past week.
1 USD = … AUD
The figure above is the mid-market rate for the date shown – halfway between the price at which banks buy and sell US dollars. It is what you see on financial news sites and the benchmark used in our converter.
When you actually exchange money, you will usually be offered a rate a little below this for converting USD into AUD. The gap is the provider's margin. Comparing the provider's rate with today's mid-market rate tells you how much the exchange is really costing you – see USD to AUD exchange fees for a calculator.

Currency markets trade around the clock on weekdays, so the market price moves constantly. The reference rate on this page is a daily snapshot and is refreshed once per day; the rate date is shown above.
Major currency markets close from Friday evening (New York time) until Monday morning in Asia-Pacific. Weekend reference rates therefore usually stay close to Friday's close.
We use daily mid-market reference rates from the free, open-source currency API maintained by Fawaz Ahmed, loaded live in your browser each time you open the page. The rate is updated once per day; it is not a dealing rate from any bank.
Banks, card issuers and airport exchange counters usually add a margin to the mid-market rate and may also charge a fixed fee. The amount you actually receive in Australian dollars is therefore normally a little lower than the figure shown here. Our exchange fees calculator shows how much a given margin costs.
